Crufti is sandboxed by the Mac App Store, so it can't read your files until you allow it. The first time you scan, it asks once — through the standard macOS file picker — for permission to read your ~/Library folder. That access is the whole reason it can find leftovers, and it is used for nothing else. Scanning happens entirely on your Mac.

A simple view of what’s using space in your Home folder. It lists folders biggest first, colors each one by who owns it (your files, app data, caches, or leftovers from deleted apps), and suggests things worth a look, such as installers you downloaded months ago. Tick what you don’t need and Crufti moves it to the Trash, with one-click Undo. Installed apps’ data and the folders macOS needs stay locked.

Measuring space means looking beyond ~/Library, and the Mac App Store sandbox needs your permission first. Nothing happens until you click Allow Access to Home Folder; then the standard macOS file picker opens on your Home folder and you click Grant Access. Crufti uses that access only to measure what’s using space and to move the items you choose to the Trash. Measuring happens entirely on your Mac.

Yes. In the Space tab, tick the items you’re unsure about and choose AI Review. There are two options. Copy a Prompt writes a description of each item (size, kind of data, what's inside folders) that you paste into the AI assistant you already use. It explains each item and asks before removing anything. On macOS 27 you can also press Ask Apple Intelligence, which rates each item Safe, Careful or Keep with a short note on what it is and what removing it would mean. That runs on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, only when you press the button and after a one-time notice. Apple doesn't keep the data, Crufti has no servers, and nothing is removed until you confirm.

Yes. Files move to the Trash, so you can restore them. Crufti also saves a record of what was removed and when, and History lets you undo from there.

It checks ~/Library for leftover files that don't belong to any currently installed app. Useful if you've been deleting apps without cleaning up for a while. It recognizes leftovers both by their bundle identifier and, for well-known apps, by the app's own name.

Yes. If the app is still installed, Crufti can move the app to the Trash along with its leftover files in a single pass — after a confirmation that shows the app's name and size, and with one-click Undo. You can also Control-click any app in Finder and choose “Uninstall with Crufti” to start the scan. The app only ever goes to the Trash, never permanent deletion, so you can always put it back.

No. Crufti has no analytics, telemetry or cloud sync, and makes no network requests of its own. The one optional exception is Ask Apple Intelligence in Space: if you press it, macOS sends the items you ticked to Apple's Private Cloud Compute to be rated, and Apple doesn't keep them. You can check this with Little Snitch or LuLu. You'll see no outbound connections until you press that button.
